"Anyone who has a pet will absolutely love this charming and humorous collection of personal experiences with animals. Jeff Wells is a veterinarian with heartfelt regard for both animals and their human companions, a compassion and respect too infrequently experienced in today's world. His poignant stories recall the tales of another veterinarian, the legendary James Herriot."

All My Patients Have Tales

is Dr. Wells' second book recalling his life as a veterinarian. His chapters recount the life altering and sometimes life threatening experiences of daily practice. For those who ever thought about or are now interested in becoming a veterinarian, he recalls the humbling life of a veterinary student. However, most uplifting and amusing are his descriptions of helping people help their pets. Let Dr. Wells take you on this journey.

Miniature Menace

I was called because Jefferson had a front leg full of porcupine quills where he had attempted to stomp on the small by well-protected animal. The quills would migrate into Jefferson's tendons and joints if not removed rather quickly.
I knew that this was going to be a much larger job than it might have seemed to the casual observer, especially with Jefferson's buddy and bodyguard protecting him. A big sorrel draft horse named Ed had decided that his position in life was to watch over Jefferson, keeping him safe from husbands and veterinarians. The little donkey would run in and out of Ed's legs as they moved across the field together.
We almost had him when he decided that I was the weakest link and made his move to run past me. I stuck out my arm with the intention of hooking him in the crook of my elbow, but I drastically underestimated him. Jefferson had played this game before and became airborne just as his chest connected with my arm. From afar the scene must have unfolded like an old cartoon. He knocked my 235 pounds easily onto the ground...
